Jorge Piedra was admitted to practice law in the State of Florida in 1996. He is also admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Southern, Middle and Northern Districts of Florida as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
Mr. Piedra attended the Florida State University College of Law where he graduated with honors. He was a member of the Journal of Transnational Law and Policy and an Articles and Notes Editor of the Journal of Land Use and Environmental Law. Mr. Piedra also attended Florida State University for his undergraduate studies, obtaining a B.S. in Political Science in 1992.
Mr. Piedra is a trial lawyer focused on commercial and construction litigation. Mr. Piedra has handled more than 75 jury and non jury trials, dozens of arbitrations, and he has argued more than fifty cases before various courts of appeals.
Mr. Piedra has been awarded the prestigious AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell. Additionally, Mr. Piedra was selected and listed in Florida Super Lawyers magazine as one of the top 5% attorneys in the state from 2007 through 2016. Since 2009 Mr. Piedra was selected as Florida’s "Legal Elite" in commercial litigation by Florida Trend Magazine. Florida Trend Magazine also selected Mr. Piedra for “The State’s Legal Leaders” in 2012 and 2013. Mr. Piedra has been recognized by Best Lawyers & The Wall Street Journal as one of the “Best Attorneys in Florida” selected by peer recognition since 2010.
Mr. Piedra currently serves as President-Elect of the Cuban American Bar Association (CABA) and his term as President will begin in January, 2018. CABA is one of the state’s largest voluntary bar organizations. CABA is also the parent of CABA Pro Bono and CABA Foundation. Mr. Piedra is currently President of CABA Pro Bono and sits on the board of directors of CABA Foundation. In 2003 he was honored as CABA's Outstanding Young Lawyer.
Mr. Piedra is a member of the Latin Builders Association (LBA) where he served on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee from 2002 until 2011. Mr. Piedra previously served as Secretary, General Counsel and Chairman of the L.B.A.'s Legislative and Community Affairs Committees. In 2002 and 2005, Mr. Piedra was selected as the Latin Builders Association's Attorney of the Year. In 2010, Piedra & Associates, P.A. was selected as the L.B.A.’s Law Firm of the Year.
In 2007, Mr. Piedra became the President of the Big Five Club an exclusive private country club which offers a variety of recreational sports and social facilities to its members. Previously, Mr. Piedra served as the Club’s Secretary and General Counsel.
Mr. Piedra is also a member of the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana, organizers of the world famous "Carnival Miami" and "Calle Ocho" festivals. The Kiwanis Club of Little Havana is a non-profit organization geared toward providing community programs and scholarships to underprivileged children in South Florida. Mr. Piedra has served on the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana's Board of Directors since 2003 and has chaired the golf tournament and voter registration drives.
Mr. Piedra resides in Miami with his wife, Cristina, and their five children. Mr. Piedra is also an avid fisherman. He is the owner and founder of the Rock Star Fishing Team which has been featured in numerous nationally televised fishing shows and national magazines. Rock Star Fishing Team won the 2008 World Sailfish Championship, the 2009 Sailfish Pro Series, the 2010 Miami Open Billfish Series, the 2010 Miami Billfish Tournament, the 2013 Miami Swordfish Tournament and the 2016 Billfish National Championship amongst many others.
