Councilwoman Ana Maria Rodriguez was successfully elected to the City of Doral Council on November 2, 2010 for a four year term in Seat 4, and was sworn into office on November 8, 2010. Born, raised and educated in Miami, she attended St. Theresa Catholic School, then went on to high school at Our Lady of Lourdes Academy. She later graduated from Florida International University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications in 1999 and graduated from The H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business at Nova Southeastern University with a Master of Science in Leadership in 2009. Councilwoman Rodriguez is the latest addition to the South Florida Regional Extension Center leadership team. As Business Development Manager, Ana Maria is responsible alongside the organization's Executive Director in the vision, crafting and implementing of strategies for the organization's Business Development mission and vision. She has a vast background in the Public Relations and Governmental Affairs arena, having been directly involved in the 2005 through 2010 Florida Legislative sessions as the Director of Government & Community Relations for Baptist Health South Florida. She provided direct legislative, executive branch, and local government support for the organization's five hospitals and 12 medical plazas. While working there, she was also responsible for implementing the organization's government and community Relations agenda alongside organization's Vice President and other organization leaders. She represented the organization in the Community by serving as the liaison to the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, South Florida Hispanic Chamber, Chamber South and various other community groups. Prior to Baptist Health, she served as a Senior Associate in the Public and Government Relations firm of Robert M. Levy & Associates, with offices in Miami and Tallahassee. She was directly involved in the 2002 through 2004 Florida Legislative sessions and provided direct legislative lobbying support, legislative research, analysis and monitoring, report writing, legislative committee testimony, and other services for the firm's listing of almost 80 legislative clients. Councilwoman Rodriguez has served in a leadership capacity in various organizations while serving as Statewide Chair for Connect Florida (a statewide group created by Leadership Florida) from 2009-2010 and launched the Southeast Region for the organization in 2007. She is an active member of the Doral Business Council, and served as Vice Chair of the City of Doral Parks & Police 4 Kids Advisory Board since the board's inception. She also served on the Board of the Coral Gables Community Foundation (2007-2010). She currently serves on the board of the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind Young Professionals group, the Amigos of the Cuban Heritage Collection at the University of Miami and FIU President's Council member. She recently received the March of Dimes "Humanitarian of the Year" award in December of 2011, and prior to that she received the Hispanic Heritage Leadership Award presented by Taca Airlines at Miami International Mall in October of 2010. She is proud of her Hispanic heritage, having been born to Cuban parents. She enjoys world travel and has visited 17 countries thus far. She is married to Dr. Clemente Canabal, from Cartagena, Colombia and has a son and two step-children.
