The President’s Council Worlds Ahead Faculty Award recognizes faculty who:
- Engage in significant research, partnership or creative initiatives that make an impact in their field, in the community and/or the world
- Promote student learning, innovation and collaboration in teaching, mentorship or advising
- Demonstrate distinguished leadership within the university, the profession, and the larger community
Previously known as the Outstanding Faculty Award, the now Worlds Ahead Faculty Award accepts nominations of all full-time faculty who have been employed at FIU for a minimum of three years. The President’s Council welcomes nominations by colleagues (regardless of length of employment at FIU) as well as self-nominations (if employed for a minimum of three years).
The recipient is awarded $15,000, a product of council dues. This award is a significant component of the council's interaction with the university community and is bestowed annually upon a distinguished member of FIU's faculty. The President's Council Worlds Ahead Faculty Award Committee, along with members of the FIU faculty, is responsible for recommending which of the nominees is to receive this distinct honor. Members review, evaluate and come to a consensus on the recommended award recipient and finalists. The award is conferred at the Annual Faculty Convocation Ceremony hosted each Fall semester.
* Based on feedback from past recipients and administration, beginning this year there will be one award recipient and we have increased the monetary recognition.
